It all Started in Hobart

And it only took me a couple of years to figure it out

A little light during the dark(er) days

I love fall. I love just about everything it has to offer. However, with the arrival of fall so to comes the darkness. Living out here in Hobart means it gets a lot darker a lot faster. But that’s only because there is little to no light pollution out here in the watershed. So the first year I lived here I came up with a solution… Halloween lights! (and decorations, but that’s just to make me happy.)

Now I know some of you are not much for decorating for the holidays (and yes, Halloween is a holiday. Anyone who tells you otherwise is just mean). I wasn’t a big decorator until 2020. In the world of COVID and being stuck at home (I mean not me, I had to go to work) I found that there wasn’t much at home that was bright and fun. So I decided that with the looming darkness, and Tami being stuck at home all day by herself, that I would transform our house into something a bit more fun.

I thought it was pretty good. Though I did go a little crazy with the spiderwebs. It was just so much fun. Nothing like coming home to a house that has some new character. The only downside was that the little strands actually felt like real spiderwebs, so leaving in the morning was interesting. But this was just the start…

Like I said, a little crazy with the spiderwebs. I was proud of it though. I spent hours, like three or four just on the hall. But it was all worth it. Not only was there something interesting and new about the house, but it gave us an excuse to have have a couple of friends (COVID bubble friends) over for a tiny little party.

(yes, the mustache was real)

The next two years were not nearly as entertaining. There were a few things that got in the way of decorating (I had started ring shopping in 2021 and we were getting married the following year). Just a couple of pieces here and there. But this year I have decided to start decorating again, because why not? It gives me something to do and it is just plain fun. I have obtained quite a few more decorations of the years, so nothing is ever the same two years in a row.

Just a bit of fun to brighten up these gloomy (spooky) days. Now I just have to find a way to spook the neighbors… and push off the inevitable swap with Christmas decorations.
